Education

Murray County residents are proud of their first-class public school system, private schools, and access to higher education.

Students thrive here, earning numerous regional awards and state championships in career-inspiring pursuits including arts, sciences, agriculture, music, and sports.

The Murray County Public School system is comprised of 11 schools and a Pre-K Center with current enrollment of more than 6,800 students. The student to teacher ratio is 15:1, which means more attention for students who are learning and growing up together.

At the close of the 2022 school year, Grades 3-8 achieved above state averages in mathematics and reading, and the high schools are above state averages for American literature and algebra.

Students receive a foundation for lifelong learning through a rigorous academic curriculum, comprehensive 21st century career, technical and agriculture pathways, and extensive opportunities for extracurricular participation in the arts, athletics, and leadership.

In partnership with Georgia Northwestern Technical College and Dalton State College, Murray County Public Schools has one of the leading dual enrollment programs in the state, allowing high school students to simultaneously earn high school and college credits. The school system also has a strong, work-based learning component that connects classroom experience to career goals.

The recent academic year sent students to state championships in basketball, wrestling, tennis, band, public speaking, arts, and robotics. Young Georgia Authors were named, and finalists worked their way closer to the Governor’s Honors Program. Records were set, and more are to come as Murray County welcomes new and returning students to join in camaraderie and lifelong learning.

Here in Chatsworth, one of the 18 North Georgia campuses of this alternative high school offers self-paced coursework for students to achieve a Georgia high school diploma.
