Georgia Northwestern Technical College is the Chamber’s 2022 Innovator of the Year for its role in developing Murray Works.

“A unique component of this project is that participating employers offset tuition costs, so there is no barrier for students

entering the manufacturing or business jobs,” said Dr. Heidi Popham, Georgia Northwestern Technical College President.

Our Chamber Workforce Initiative focuses on the development and retention of Murray’s up and coming workforce and on recruiting newcomers from universities and colleges in the Southeast.

Beginning in the 9th grade, Murray students can learn about the career opportunities available to them right here at home. Throughout their high school careers, Murray students can connect with our employers during the Murray Works signature events: Career Connect, Business After School, and Schmoozapolooza.

Upon graduating from high school, Murray County students are eligible to attend the Murray Works Employment Academy at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. During the Academy, students learn vital business and technical skills, such as: Manufacturing 101, OSHA-10 Safety Training, and Forklift Operations Training.

At the conclusion of the Academy, each Murray Works investor interviews the students for job placement – like speed dating – where matches are made.

Murray Works investors fund the program’s Employment Academy at no out of pocket tuition cost to the student.
